Learner Objectives:

  • Delineate the need for an initial evaluation
  • Illuminate ASHA’s framework for the SLP’s role in SM
  • In your own words, describe bridging the gap from home to school
  • Explain the technique called a “fade-in”
  • Explain the technique called “shaping” i.e. “the communication ladder”
  • Provide a “pep talk” for your student prior to starting your interventions
  • Outline how to help your student generalize their voice
  • State why the teacher(s) and paraprofessionals are VIPs within the support process

Successful completion of these outcomes will be determined via a nine question self-assessment.
